I have taken this opportunity to create an in-depth peer editing worksheet that requires the student to go a "step" farther and use their own writing skills to elaborate their comprehension, criticisms, and critiques of one another's work. My plan is to use this sheet on their first major writing assignment before October 15, 2011.
I have created an assignment that requires students to re-write the main events of Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter from the point of view of one of the four major characters in the novel. This assignment will demonstrate the importance of point of view in a literary work, and how an author uses it to reveal character, events, setting, overall meaning and theme. I plan to assign this paper after we have finished the novel, and before the final assessment.
I have created an assignment that requires students to demonstrate comprehension of Fever 1793 and the use of verbals through an artistic exercise that allows for creativity and an example of deeper thought processes.
